South Jersey Guild of Spinners and Handweavers

See the Weavers page for information on the latest Handweavers Study Group Meeting.

See the Spinners page for the latest SJ Spinners Newsletter and information on Rock Day 2010.

The Guild was formed 1975 to promote fine craftsmanship and excellence in the fiber arts and to provide its members with educational opportunities in pursuit of these goals. Through guest speakers and study groups we explore the many applications of spinning, dyeing and handweaving, including ethnic, historical and contemporary designs, basketry and other fiber arts.

Our membership is concentrated in Camden and Burlington Counties in Southern New Jersey, but extends south into parts of Gloucester County and east to the Jersey Shore.

The greatest benefit of belonging to a weaving or spinning guild is the tangible and substantial reward of increased creativity and productivity flowing from the regular contact with fellow artists and craftsmen. All members receive our periodic newsletter Loose Ends which covers upcoming events, programs and other items of interest.

Our guild maintains membership in the Mid-Atlantic Fiber Association (MAFA), an organization of nearly 60 fiber guilds from New York to North Carolina. Our guild membership in MAFA entitles each of our members to receive the MAFA newsletter via its website: www.mafafiber.org and to attend MAFA's biennial conferences.

All Guild members have access to our library of books and videotapes, which cover a wide range of spinning and weaving topics.
